Evangelical Vehicles

On the way out of HyVee tonight, I saw this.  

 

There's nothing particularly controversial about it, as it's the most commonly quoted Bible verse, and there's nothing about his god hating anyone.  Sure the owner of this truck holds delusional beliefs and seems to think this will convince others to share those delusions (so much so that he put up the sunscreen at night), but he's as free to hold those delusional beliefs as I am to point out that those beliefs are delusional.

The only thing more bullshit than his delusions about Jesus are the delusions many Christians have about supposedly being victimized by secularism.  What would happen to a vehicle that had the atheist equivalent.  If I put "Jesus is pretend" and a sunscreen with one of the many great atheist quotes?  How long would it last before it got vandalized?

Because I think we all know it would happen.  And the worst thing that'll happen to that guy is some atheist taking a picture of his truck and having a small rant on his blog.

Thanksgiving is this week, which means the War On Christmas is just around the corner.  This means we're going to get a heavier dose of how oppressed some Christians think they are.

Thankfully, Sam Killermann (of Everyday Feminism & It’s Pronounced Metrosexual) has given us a comprehensive list of the ways their complaints are complete bullshit.

My favorites:

6.  You can worship freely, without fear of violence or threats.

7.  A bumper sticker supporting your religion won’t likely lead to your car being vandalized.

10.  When swearing an oath, you will place your hand on a religious scripture pertaining to your faith.

15.  You can reasonably assume that anyone you encounter will have a decent understanding of your beliefs.

17.  Your faith is accepted/supported at your workplace.

33.  You can complain about your religion being under attack without it being perceived as an attack on another religion.

34.  You can dismiss the idea that identifying with your faith bears certain privileges.

Jesus Bumper Stickers And Non-Believers

"If you don't believe in God,
Does that make Him
any less real?

Are you a believer in Jesus
or just a fan?"

To answer those particular questions, "No" and "Neither".  My lack of belief does not make your god less real.  It's actually the other way around.  Your god not being real causes my lack of belief.  Regarding Jesus, I am neither a believer in Jesus nor a fan.

Signs & bumper stickers' like this used to bug me.  To me, they're Christians flaunting their religion, saying "Look how Christian I am", as if that makes them right or better than us non-Christians.  But now I like them.  

I've recently noticed a trend in the message involved.  These things very often target non-believers.  If they're so secure in their faith, why are they so threatened by those of us without faith.  Could it be that something inside them knows we're the ones who are right?

They'll continue to focus attention on us unless they somehow figure out how counterproductive to their goal such a tactic would be.  I don't see them figuring that out.  But I do see them hurting their own cause by provoking non-believers to poke more holes in their arguments.

Their fear of us being right will only show people that we are.  Thanks for helping atheism to grow, Christians.
